gPhone Launch is expected next month: October 2008

September 17th, 2008

There is an article in NY Times that says the Google Phone is due to be released next month, Oct. 2008.    Apparently Google has made a deal with T-mobile to launch the phones that will use Android Software by Google to give free internet access to users, supported by Google ads.

The actual Google phone is being made by HTC.  More details about the phone such as price will be revealed at the end of September.

This phone is expected to rival the 3G iPhone in popularity.

GPS and Phone Combine in Mio Leap k1 Cell Phone

September 9th, 2008

The new Mio Leap K1 cell phone , which will be released soon, is great for people who want to know where they are and call someone at anytime.  The phone combines the “know all” feeling of having a portable GPS and the safety and convenience of a cell phone.

Here is a photo of the Mio Leap:

This is a rose.

If you don’t own a GPS now, you probably think “I will never use it”.  Once you get it you will realize you were wrong!  While I am the gadget lover in my family, I felt the same way about adding a GPS to my new car.  My husband talked me into getting it anyways and I still bet him that we would never use it.  I use it once a week now!  I was so wrong.

This phone also has a 2 megapixel camera and Windows mobile.

Solar Chargers For Cell Phones: Get environmental

September 6th, 2008

With energy becoming scarcer and more expensive, what better time for a wide array of cell phone solar chargers to become available for sale???

On Ebay, you can buy them for as little as $2 each and for as much as $165.  I am guessing the more expensive ones last longer and charge faster, but I have not tried them out, so I can’t say for sure.  Some are sleek and others are pretty unwieldy looking.  The more expensive ones look sleeker, of course.

The chargers are portable and can be used on camping trips (if you are camping where there is phone service).  They can also be used to charge MP3 players as well.  Some people feel we will be using solar powered chargers for everything soon, so may as well be ahead of the crowd and buy one today.

gPhone gets closer: Google talks with Verizon

September 6th, 2008

There is evidence that the gPhone or Google Phone is getting closer to being a reality.  This article from NY Times talks about the discussions between the two mega corporations.

The article talks about how agreements on the deal are potentially just 2 months away.  Does that mean release of an internet ready phone that has free web browsing supported by Google ads is only 2 months away??  If so, sign me up.

My daughter accidently racked up $40 in cell phone internet bills last month when playing with my husband’s new “bells and whistles” phone.  Granted, my husband was responsible for knowing what the costs were associated with his phone or to not let her play with it, but it is that kind of “sticker shock when you get the bill” that makes many people like me even afraid to think about using cell phone net service.  If I know it will be free then I won’t hesitate to use it.

I would love to use my cell phone to email people, to comparison shop and to find prices of stuff on Ebay when I am out garage sailing or thrift store hunting.  That is ..for free.  In my town we still have free wi-fi city wide so that would make the experience even sweeter.
