Solar Chargers For Cell Phones: Get environmental

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

With energy becoming scarcer and more expensive, what better time for a wide array of cell phone solar chargers to become available for sale???

On Ebay, you can buy them for as little as $2 each and for as much as $165.  I am guessing the more expensive ones last longer and charge faster, but I have not tried them out, so I can’t say for sure.  Some are sleek and others are pretty unwieldy looking.  The more expensive ones look sleeker, of course.

The chargers are portable and can be used on camping trips (if you are camping where there is phone service).  They can also be used to charge MP3 players as well.  Some people feel we will be using solar powered chargers for everything soon, so may as well be ahead of the crowd and buy one today.

gPhone gets closer: Google talks with Verizon

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

There is evidence that the gPhone or Google Phone is getting closer to being a reality.  This article from NY Times talks about the discussions between the two mega corporations.

The article talks about how agreements on the deal are potentially just 2 months away.  Does that mean release of an internet ready phone that has free web browsing supported by Google ads is only 2 months away??  If so, sign me up.

My daughter accidently racked up $40 in cell phone internet bills last month when playing with my husband’s new “bells and whistles” phone.  Granted, my husband was responsible for knowing what the costs were associated with his phone or to not let her play with it, but it is that kind of “sticker shock when you get the bill” that makes many people like me even afraid to think about using cell phone net service.  If I know it will be free then I won’t hesitate to use it.

I would love to use my cell phone to email people, to comparison shop and to find prices of stuff on Ebay when I am out garage sailing or thrift store hunting.  That is ..for free.  In my town we still have free wi-fi city wide so that would make the experience even sweeter.
